Isilo means “ King “ in Zulu.
Isilo was an African elephant that lived in Tembe Elephant Park in Southern Africa, home to some of the largest elephants in the world.
He was born in the late 1950 s and was about 58 years old when he died of natural causes.

He weighed about 6,5 to 7 tones and his tusks were estimated to be more than three meters long. The right tusk weighed about 65 kg and the left about 60 kg.

Isilo was a major tourist attraction due to his immense size and placid gentle nature. He was world-famous and even had his own Facebook page with thousands of followers.

His death attracted international media attention as his tusks were considered a national heritage artefact.

Sadly his tusks were missing when he was found dead, a mystery to this day.
